Roof Insulation

Overview

Listed below are some common options for roof insulation, along with their approximate U-values:

Rigid Insulation Boards
  • Polyisocyanurate (PIR) Boards: U-value range: 0.12 to 0.20 W/m²K
  •  Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Boards: U-value range: 0.025 to 0.035 W/m²K
  • Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Boards: U-value range: 0.030 to 0.040 W/m²K

Mineral Wool Insulation
  • Glass Mineral Wool: U-value range: 0.035 to 0.040 W/m²K
  • Rock Mineral Wool: U-value range: 0.035 to 0.040 W/m²K

Spray Foam Insulation
  • Closed-Cell Spray Foam: U-value range: 0.020 to 0.025 W/m²K
  • Open-Cell Spray Foam: U-value range: 0.025 to 0.035 W/m²K Blown-in or Loose-Fill Insulation
  • Cellulose Insulation: U-value range: 0.035 to 0.040 W/m²K
  • Fiberglass Insulation: U-value range: 0.035 to 0.040 W/m²K

Reflective Foil Insulation
  • Reflective Foil Insulation: U-value range: 0.18 to 0.25 W/m²K

It's important to note that the U-values mentioned above are approximate and can vary based on factors such as insulation thickness, installation method, and other construction details. The actual U-values achieved in a specific application may differ and should be verified with the manufacturer's technical data or calculated by an energy assessor.

When selecting roof insulation in Ireland, it's essential to consider factors such as thermal performance, moisture resistance, fire safety, and building regulations.
Consulting with insulation manufacturers, contractors, or energy efficiency experts can provide more specific information and guidance on selecting the most suitable insulation option with optimal U-values for your specific needs and compliance with building standards.
