Definition and principles

The EPBD is legislation that all EU member states must adhere to, its purpose to try and improve the energy performance of all buildings in the EU. The complete text of the Directive (Directive 2002/91/EC) can be found at http://www.sei.ie/epbd.

The main principals of the directive are as follows:

  1. To facilitate a single standard of energy performance requirements for all EU member states to work towards.

  2. To viably improve the energy performance of dwellings in all EU member states.
