Flooring is the base of your home and the kind of flooring you have will be important to you. There are many things to consider when choosing your flooring such as the cost, functionality, maintenance, and of course, the aesthetic. There are pros and cons to all types, but we believe that a tiled floor will be much more beneficial to you than a wooded floor, for example. Here’s why:

Price

First of all, the difference in price between wood and tiles is quite big. Tiling gives you a lot more value for your money, due to less maintenance and a wider variety to choose from. The price of tiles depends on colour, style, and pattern but tiling are generally cheaper. When considering the cost per square foot plus the price of installation and maintenance, the cost of wood flooring is more expensive overall.

Choice & Aesthetic

There is much more choice when it comes to tiles with multiple variants available. Having more choice means it is much easier for you to choose a style that perfectly captures the look you are going for, whether it be a patterned vintage tile for your living room like

Dorset Marron

or a polished porcelain bathroom tile like

Lithium Silver

With so many colours, patterns, and styles available, tiles are a popular option for flooring. You may want the tile to add to the ambience or provide a striking contrast to a room and you will definitely have plenty of options to pick from. Tiles can be as basic or as striking as you want – your choices are endless.

Installation

The installation of tiles over wood tends to be a lot easier. Tiles are laid on the base coat with cement mortar and the joints are filled with white cement. If you have cement flooring already, the tiles can be easily installed on that using an adhesive.

Maintenance

Once installed, tiles are much easier to maintain than wood. If your tiles are installed properly, you won’t have to worry about them for a long time. The tile is highly durable and requires little maintenance. It’s less likely to get dents and scratches while wood flooring is prone to scratching and wear. Tiles are easier to clean, only needing regular dusting, and don’t stain as wood does. Wood flooring requires regular cleaning and often becomes noisy and creak over time, meaning there is more work required. Tiles are an easy-to-maintain alternative.

Water-resistant

There are many more options of where to put tiles as it is water and moisture-proof. Wood is not moisture or water-resistant. It is prone to moisture damage and is not the best choice for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, or hot and humid climates. Humidity and water can cause solid hardwood to warp.

Safety

If you’re worried about kids slipping, get unglazed tiles. Unglazed tiles don’t have a top coat on them, making them less slippery. They are usually matt and have an earthy look to them which many of you might prefer, like this

. In fact, tiling is easier to keep clean and it more resistant to damage, making it a great choice if you have children. Tiles are non-allergenic. Their nonporous surface resists trapping dirt, dust, and allergens. If you’re an allergy sufferer, tile can be one of the best types of flooring for your home.
