Home Offices have become an increasingly popular room in the home. There is a heightened interest in creating the ideal study or office, whether you are working or studying from home. It is important that this space works for you as it is the location in which creativity and productivity is at its most important. When designing your office, keep functionality, practicality, and aesthetics in mind. Here are 5 important things to consider when creating a home office:

Location:

Ideally, your office should be in a quiet area of your home. Choose a room with lots of natural lighting as you will be less productive in a dark, dull room. A room on the side of the house where the sun is brightest throughout the day would be ideal. If you have the option of several rooms, opt for a large room with lots of space. You don’t want to feel claustrophobic, and storage is essential in a workspace. If a whole room is not an option, a foldaway desk in a guestroom can work just as well. Just keep it need and tidy.

Equipment:

Include everything you need to work efficiently without cluttering your space. Studies have shown that having an uncluttered work surface promotes productivity.

As well as that, you need a chair with a support system that you can spend your days sitting in. Long hours are spent in the office, so comfort is key. You will need to support your back properly so opt for an adjustable chair or even a standing desk, which you can adjust accordingly too. Make sure to take breaks and walk around throughout the day

Keep your laptop and work phone if you have one if your office after hours. An important aspect of having a home office is to keep your work in that room and to switch off after hours.

Storage:

A home office needs to be organized and storage will help keep things neat and in their place. Once again, a clear space will foster productivity and creativity. Create a filing system on your desktop or in a filing cabinet and only take out what you need, when you need it. Put your things back in storage when you’re not using them or at the end of the day so that you continue to have a clean and free workspace.

Colour:

The colours we see influence our brain. Colours can be energizing, or calming, or even irritating. You may want to choose colours that calm and focus the mind, like blues, greens, and neutrals.

Or you may feel as though you need to be stimulated in order to work more effectively. Brighter colours such as orange and yellow can help with your creativity. Red should be generally avoided as a prolonged exposure to this colour can cause headache

Décor:

Décor is best to be kept minimalistic so as to not create distractions or clutter your space. Include wall art and fun rugs to save space.

Plants are always a good idea as they add life and colour to your office. They purify the air, improving the quality that you breath in all day. They have an overall positive effect on the brain.

When giving your workspace a makeover, remember to consider these elements as they will make your office inspiring, healthy and productive!
