1. Renovate your Room

You may want to start fresh with your bedroom but completely transforming and expanding it can cost a lot of time and money. A new foundation, walls, roofing, etc. is incredibly expensive so using existing rooms is a lot more efficient. If you have a spare room or a large hallway, you could merge them with your current bedroom to design a wonderful master suite. It is cost-effective and creates a whole new room. Having a large space will give you the freedom to design your perfect relaxation room.

Of course, if you are happy with your room size and just want to redecorate, you can ignore this tip!

2. Bedroom Flooring

Your bedroom floor should provide the room with a sense of warmth and cosiness. Soft flooring such as carpet is a popular recommendation but if you do not want it from wall-to-wall, wood flooring with a large area rug could be ideal for you.

If you opt for wooden floors, you can install underfloor heat coils and make sure to pick out a large rug that will suit your bedroom!

3. Pick a Style

There are an endless amount of popular bedroom styles such as shabby chic, industrial, and coastal. For an industrial interior, all you need are some raw and rustic pieces with reclaimed wood and salvaged furniture. Try some nautical accessories and furniture pieces for a coastal theme. We have a list of stylish interior designs here.

If you don’t feel like sticking to a theme, a colour scheme like soft pastels or shades of blue could be more up your street. A feature wall is an easy but wonderful way to add depth to your bedroom. These features are simple and budget friendly but effective. You can read about feature walls here.

4. Lighting is Key

Ambiance is very important in a bedroom and lighting is key in creating this. To create the perfect atmosphere, a combination of light sources would be effective.

Begin with the ceiling light and cover it with an eye-catching shade that matches the theme of your room or if your room has high ceilings, a chandelier would be a beautiful feature piece. Place floor lamps and bedside lamps around the room with warm toned bulbs so that you do not have to have the main light on all the time. Scattering fairy lights around your bedframe and closet will create the ultimate cosy feel.

Having a dimmer switch for at least one light source is a must-have as it gives you the opportunity to change the mood of the room easily.

5. Personal Touches

While overly decorated bedrooms can be overwhelming, adding personality to a room is vital to make it your own. Adding personal touches to your room will build character and create a homely feel.

If you’re a bookworm, you could add a bookshelf with all your favourite novels, or if you’re into computers, having a desk solely for your tech would be ideal. Hanging up pictures of friends and family or your favourite artwork will add colour and personality to the room.

When adding personal touches, keep in mind the interior style you have chosen for your room and don’t get side-tracked!
