Our home is a newly built 4 bedroom detached house in a Cork City suburb. The house has several large windows throughout allowing lots of natural light in, which I love. The kitchen gets the most natural light through these large windows and the patio doors leading out to the patio. The light makes the kitchen and the rest of the house feel fresh. It reflects the wall colour and makes the rooms seem bigger than they are.

We really took advantage of this architectural design and used neutral greys on the kitchen walls with deeper grey kitchen units. This allowed us to be bolder with the art we hung and furniture/ accessories we chose to complete our vision for the kitchen.

Each room in the house has its own unique interior design and style. However, every room in the house flows well into the next and complements the next. The grey hardwood floor running through the entire downstairs also helps this flow. I really like how the floor runs unbroken right through the ground floor except for wet areas which are tiled. It gives the impression of spaciousness and is easy to clean, it was one of the best decisions we made.

Like the kitchen Polished pebble by Dulux was the base colour used in each room. This neutral grey complements “feature walls” very well in certain rooms.

While choosing our interior design for our new home took time to gather ideas & inspo from other home accounts on Instagram & on Pinterest. I think it’s very important to take this time & not to make any rushed decisions that you may regret later.

To give a sense of luxury & comfort the entire upstairs is carpeted except for bathrooms and ensuites. We chose a grey carpet with a runner style on the stairs. The runner is trimmed with a black border which looks great against the wood flooring & white staircase. We chose the grey carpet as we felt it would be a great base for all styles of bedrooms. For example, We styled the master bedroom with a navy velour bed, grey furniture & wardrobes running the length of master bedroom wall. There is a great sense of opulence in this room with how we chose to style and design it. On the other hand the carpet also works perfectly in the nursery with the soft pinks we have chosen for that space. As mentioned previously we used neutrals and greys as the base to allow us to be that bit bolder with the accessories and furnishings. We steered away from this concept in the downstairs toilet. We tiled the floor with mosaic style tiles white/gold/aqua in colour and then tiled the wall behind the sink in aqua subway tiles. It’s a real contemporary style which I love.

We always envisioned our home to be welcoming and to have our sense of style. With the choices and decisions we have made I feel we have definitely achieved this.
