The evenings have gotten shorter, and temperatures are dropping, which only means one thing – it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Whether it’s your first Christmas in a new home or maybe you just want to change things up this year, we have some fabulous decorating tips to help the festivities to begin.

Choosing your Tree

A Christmas tree is the most popular festive decoration and is usually the focal point of any home celebrating the holiday. Christmas trees come in a variety of shapes, sized, and colours and having a real or artificial tree is personal preference.

The introduction of artificial Christmas trees has meant the celebrations can last longer, with trees being put up earlier and taken down later. We have trees ranging from 3ft to 10ft in our Shop. Take a look at the dark green trees, light green trees, and the magical snow covered trees here! Some of our trees even come with LED lights on them already, meaning you won’t have to deal with carefully detangling old Christmas lights.

For some people, you cannot beat the smell and feel of a real Christmas Tree! Evergreen trees ensures your real tree will last much longer throughout the Winter and the growing popularity of them means it’s likely you’ll be able to find and buy your own unique tree somewhere in your area. Check out how to choose the perfect real tree.

Christmas Décor

Once you’ve chosen your tree, it’s time to decorate it. You may have a specific theme chosen for your home, for example, a gold and white theme or a woodland animal theme. We have decorations for these themes and many more here! Baubles, tinsel, and lights are the traditional decorations used on a Christmas tree and there’s so much choice, you’re sure to find the perfect items for your tree.

Start with the lights so that they don’t get tangled in the baubles or tinsel. A general rule of thumb is to use 100 lights for every foot of your tree so that the lights don’t look sparse in any part of it. You can choose from colourful lights, warm tones and cool tones, depending on the look you’re going for. EZ Living have a guide on how to decorate your Christmas Tree like a pro.

If you have a young family or grandkids, you might want to divert from a specific theme and add decorations that the children have made or bought for you. Adding sentimental items really gives it that Christmassy feel. If you want to have a balance of both, you could add a smaller tree somewhere like the hallway or the sunroom and have your sentimental decorations on that.

Once the tree is complete, you can add more festivity to your home by putting tinsel and wall and ceiling decorations up. Wrap garlands around banisters and hang wreaths on your doors, maybe ones that match your tree. Take a look at a variety here

If you would prefer not to have decorations hanging from your walls or ceilings or you just want to add even more Christmas décor to your home, then ornaments are a festive and chic way to do so. These figurines come pre-assembled and are handy to incorporate around your home and with such a variety to choose from, it will be easy to find some that fit your theme, if you have one. They come in many sizes so you can have them on the ground, a coffee table, or even the dining table.

Your fireplace gets used more frequently at Christmas time so it could be a good idea to make this a feature in your decorating. Add stockings and garland or string lights on the mantelpiece and lanterns by the sides. Just be sure to keep everything away from the fire.

Adding a few Christmas candles around your home is a subtle and simply way to incorporate Christmas into your home.

Add the Final Trimmings

Christmas dinner is a large part of Christmas, and the most important for many. When decorating your home, the dinner table shouldn’t be overlooked. A beautifully laid table where your closest family and friends gather to eat and drink and celebrate will tie your decorations together.

Add a gold or red tablecloth and runner, ones that match your theme. Add an eye-catching wreath with a Christmas candle in the centre of the table and set your placemats around it. You may have vintage plate or special serving dishes kept for special occasions that you want to get out and set on your wonderful table.

However you decorate your home this Christmas, make sure to enjoy it as you get into the holiday spirit! Merry Christmas 🎅
