DIY Christmas Wreath
Wreaths are a popular decoration to hang on your front door or to use as a centrepiece at the dining table during the Christmas period. Wreaths are easy to find and purchase but it’s just as easy to make your own, and a whole lot more fun and rewarding! Whether you want to add a personal touch to your Christmas décor or you’re using this activity to spend time with family or friends, all you need to do is follow the steps below to create a wonderful Christmas wreath.
What You’ll Need
· Gloves
· Thin wire bent into a large circle
· Thin twine or gardening wire
· Evergreen foliage such as ivy, conifers and spruce
· Decorative berries, flowers, pinecones, dried fruit such as sliced oranges, cinnamon sticks, and foliage such as moss or holly
Instructions
1. Take the evergreen foliage and carefully wrap it around the metal circle. Twist the stem of the leaves around the bent wire while keeping the leaves facing outwards. Tie in place using the twine or gardening wire. Continue wrapping the foliage around the circle until you have covered the wire in leaves. You may need to tie each stem in a few different places depending on how long each piece is.
2. You want to make sure the metal ring is completely covered, so, depending how thick the foliage is, you may need to repeat step 1 two or three times, making sure the wire is completely covered. Cover the stems with the second layer of leaves, creating a clean look and adding dimension to your wreath.
3. Now use the extra foliage you have, like the moss, and add it between the evergreen. Add flowers for pops of colours to make the green wreath a little brighter. Add the berries and and dried fruit too. Secure these with the twine or wire.
4. Add in the cinnamon sticks and pinecones, or whatever else you may think you need for a seasonal touch. If you want a more lavish look, you could spray paint your pinecones in gold, silver or fake snow to add even more festive spirit to your wreath.
It’s as simple as that! If using fresh foliage, hanging your wreath outside will make it last up to 4 weeks. Hanging it inside a door or placing it on the dining table will give it about 2 weeks, which is still enough time to really enjoy your Christmas wreath!
