We are all hopeful that 2022 will be much different than recent years. Hopes for celebrations and international travel has increased this year and interior design trends have become more hopeful with us. Styles seem to have evolved and become brighter, more dimensional, and full of personality.

Here are some trends predicted for Spring ’22:

1.

Colour & Pattern – Bold

Vibrant colours will be on trend this Spring with yellows, greens, and blues. Bold patterns are in, and bright colours will be combined with stripes, plaids, and checks. Floral prints are also making a comeback, after being seen as old fashioned for years. Spring 2022 is predicted to embrace colour and textiles.

Lived in’ Durability

We have been living a more casual ‘lived in’ lifestyle in our homes in recent years. With homeowners spending much more time at home, practicality and durability have become two important characteristics in our homes. We are viewing our houses as actual places we live and the furniture as actual objects we use. We are using our living space much more rather than having it and decorating it for show.

Therefore, durable fabrics and furniture will be popular this season. We will be looking for items that can resist wear and tear, and if renovating your home, make sure to consider the practicality of your living space.

3.

Working from Home

Home offices have been popular for a while now and we don’t expect this to change yet. Employers have seen that work can be done from home and remote working is here to stay. With this comes the importance of having a space where you can create and work, before leaving your job at your desk at the end of the day.

People need a cosy nook or a room of their own – maybe even two, depending on how many people in the household will be working from home. Your desk and seating is a priority as this is where you will be spending your day. Choose a large desk so that you are not cramped for space and keep in mind where you will be putting it – will you need an L-shaped desk, or a curved one to fit the space? For seating, office chairs which you can adjust are best. Alternatively, you can choose a raised desk which you stand at so that your back does not hurt throughout the workday.

The atmosphere you create in your office is very important. Check out more design tips here.

4.

Antiques & Heirlooms

Cheap glam is being replaced by vintage antiques this season. People are starting to spend time searching for antique treasures while others have found hidden heirlooms during a one of many Pandemic clear-outs. This emerging trend will give a classical, vintage look to your home and spending time seeking out these pieces will make any homeowner proud. It is also sustainable rather than buying new, cheap décor and promotes quality over quantity.

5.

Colourful Kitchens

The days of cold, white kitchens are coming to an end and colour is up and coming this Spring. Warm, vibrant kitchens are trending and are sure to bring character into the home.

Bright coloured cabinets and patterned backsplash tiles will add much needed sunshine to our kitchens. Kitchens don’t need to be fully tiled- add some colourful wallpaper to your space to bring personality into your home.

If you have a clean, white kitchen, don’t worry - keep it that way if you like it. Otherwise, give the cabinets a lick of paint or make some upgrades. If you’re in need of a new fridge for example, maybe opt for a 50’s/60’s style retro fridge to add a pop of colour.

6.

Global Influences

Many of us have the travel bug after being cooped up in one space for so long. Travel began again in the second half of 2021 and has continued so far in 2022. It’s predicted that we will be influenced in our homes by our travels abroad. We’re sure to see more styles such as Japandi (a combination of Japanese and Scandinavian style) and Australian coastal designs.

Bring your travels into your home by picking up souvenirs from your destinations and incorporating them into your home

7.

Relaxing Nature

Natural designs are another interior style that will continue to thrive in Spring ‘22. People appreciate nature much more now after being forced to stay inside and there is a demand to include natural décor into our homes.

Plants and flowers are a natural way to add colour to your home. They have wonderful scents and purify the air – what’s not to like? If you’re worried about the upkeep, buy a plant that doesn’t need too much care. We have a list on this post

Furniture will be made from natural materials such as wood, textiles will include flora and fauna patterns, metal and wool textures are to be on trend and colours will consist of neutral, earth tones. If you’re renovating, large windows and glass doors are a must.

8.

Outdoor Rooms

Many people have porches or sunrooms in the front or back of their home but don’t utilise the space as much as they would like. This is due to change this season as more people are designing and utilising their outdoor rooms.

This is a wonderful space to gather with family and friends in the comfort of the indoors but with the views of the outdoors. Recently, outdoor spaces have become the place to host parties as everything has been closed. Outdoor rooms are becoming more extravagant – you may want to build a bar or purchase more seating that can be used indoors or outdoors as garden parties are set to continue in popularity this Spring.
